About Us
We are a family of three: two retired optical engineers and our very sweet 12-year-old daughter. After working successfully as engineers in the aerospace industry, we really wanted a shot at being in charge of our own destiny! So, in 1998, we started our own international optical design and manufacturing company. Most of our products were sold in the exciting, cutting-edge area of live-cell research and drug discovery. Some of the most prestigious universities and drug discovery companies in the world own and use our unique microscope-based optical systems.
Through our company, we had the opportunity to travel to many incredible places in the world. We were exposed to many different languages, cultures and viewpoints. We met amazing people and...of course...also feasted on a myriad of incredible cuisines! These international experiences had a huge impact on us and shaped our world view in a big way. So much so, that we felt it was important to do everything we could to raise our daughter to be a "World Citizen" -- so she would deeply know, understand, and embrace other cultures, languages, and people.
Our daughter started attending international language schools in the United States when she was three and we took language classes on the weekends. But we soon realized we needed to actually immerse ourselves in another country to truly learn another language and culture. The only problem was...we couldn't really narrow it down to just one country, language and culture! So, we now own homes in the Unites States, Mexico, and France and we have arranged our lives so we can spend part of each year in them. When we aren't able to use our homes, we offer them to other adventurous people like you!
And...in case anyone is interested...our experiment has definitely paid off. We all have wonderful, kind friends in all 3 countries - who generously share their lives and unique viewpoints on life with us while patiently helping us muddle our way through their languages and cultures. Our daughter is now trilingual (English, Spanish and French), triliterate and tricultural....and the three of us couldn't be happier!
